We visited all of the modular home dealers on the strip in Oxford and chose Alternative Modular Homes because we felt the most comfortable with the salesperson and wanted to work with a company that had a long history in the industry.
Mary Anna and John were straight-forward, practical and honest every step of the way. Mary Anna was open to the changes we wanted to make to an existing floor plan and worked endlessly to ensure that our home was exactly what we were dreaming of! She never once made a promise she couldn't keep and there were no shortcuts made.
The communication during the completion phase made us feel confident that the right decisions were being made concerning our home and that she was just as passionate about our dream as we were. Their excavation team was incredible, literally transforming our wooded, hilly lot into a functional, attractive and easy to maintain property! In the end, the house was exactly what we had envisioned.
Our advice to others is to go for reputable industry experience and traditional values when it comes to quality of work. You will find both of these and more with Alternative Modular Homes!
Thank you for a seamless and stress-free experience! Mary Anna walked me through every step of the process with the perfect combination of patience and expertise. She aided me through the customization of the home and provided reliable and efficient professionals to complete the work. Schedules were met and follow-through after completion was amazing.
I would definitely contract with Alternative Modular Homes again.

My search for a modular home took about 2 years. I dealt with almost every major and non-major company in New Hampshire but still was missing confidence and trustworthiness. I decided to take my search to the surrounding state of Maine and that's when I came across Mary Anna and John from Alternative Modular Homes. What I sensed immediately the most right off the bat, was their truthfulness honesty and yet many years of experience. That finally gave me the confidence that we could start taking the steps forward to having our dream home. So we did, and it was a very smooth process.
It was also friendship building experience along the way. I could not have been any happier with the outcome of the design, quality and high craftsmanship that Alternative Modular Homes delivered. Every day I wake up and go to bed knowing I made the best decision I could have made for my family. If you want to deal with real trustworthy people who have the knowledge and expertise in getting your dream home to you, look no further than Alternative Modular Homes.
Thanks with Love

Alternative Modular Homes made the process of buying our first home as easy as possible. When budget constraints made our dream model unrealistic, Mary Anna worked with us to find one in our budget that met all the major criteria. Mary Anna was always waiting there patiently to help guide us through the process. Mary Anna was honest with us throughout the process which is what we liked most about working with her as well as the knowledge that she had about the business. We love our new home and look forward to having many years here.
Thank you so much for the experience. We will be sending as many people as we can your direction.

Every home has a story. Our home's story includes Mary Anna and John Palmer of Alternative Modular Homes.. My husband, Gus, had been going to the camp on the lake "for 50 years"; and, he had a long standing dream of a home on the lake in Maine. In 2006 we bought an acre of land at the lake. Life happened; and, we were unable to move forward on our dream home.
In the summer of 2013 Mary Anna and John Palmer entered our lives. That is when the dream of a home on our land started to become a reality. We had visited several modular home businesses and we chose Alternative Modular Homes after our first visit with Mary Anna and John.
Mary Anna and John handled every detail imaginable concerning modular home building from the foundation up. They arranged for exceptional subcontractors to complete the on-site work.
1. Our initial challenge: Could a modular home be delivered to our site, a single vehicle wide, dirt road with trees and utility poles set quite closely?
2. The 2nd challenge: Could the home be customized enough to be similar to our "inspiration home"? And,
3. The 3rd challenge: How easy would it be to modify the plans?
Mary Anna was patient and proactive leading up to the finalization of the plans. She asked us questions, clarified and courteously offered helpful ideas as we struggled to understand what was possible in the customization of our home.
Over a year later the results amaze Gus and me! It is the "inspiration home" we brought to Mary Anna and John in the summer of 2014; from how it sits on the lot, to the barn-red siding, and the covered stone patio with roughhewn posts and beams, to the beautiful cabinets and country sink in the kitchen.
We would recommend, without hesitation, Mary Anna and John Palmer of Alternative Modular Homes to anyone interested in a new home.
They not only sold us our modular home, they are exceptionally skilled and knowledgeable people. They supplied all the contractors and materials as needed. They helped us work through many challenges that came up as our home moved towards completion. Their efficiency and professionalism; and, their willingness to tell us not only what could be done, but also what could not be done, was greatly appreciated.
Our home is warm and inviting. It is well-built and very attractive. We enjoy inviting our family and friends here. Thank you Mary Anna & John, you will always be an integral part of our home's story.

"Following our retirement, we decided to relocate to our hometown. Our original thought was to find a house plan and layout that appealed to us and hire a contractor to stick build our home. We found that an easy way to get ideas was to visit modular home builders and walk through models on their lots. In our search, we trudged through muddy lots and saw multiple examples of what we would never want to deal with.
Our plan suddenly took a turn when we stopped by Alternative Modular Homes. Their models are tastefully set up and the attention to detail made it clear to us that this company cared about their product. It was to be the beginning of a great experience for us!
We would recommend Alternative Modular Homes to anyone interested in a new home. Mary Anna and John handled every detail imaginable concerning home building from the foundation up. They spared us all of the headaches of dealing with regulations that we had not even anticipated.
All of our calls and questions were answered promptly and professionally. Their experience in home building amazed us. Neither of them have the patience for imperfection, and it has been a pleasure for us to show off their work. Mary Anna and John are fine, experienced and knowledgeable people who treated us as they would treat their friends.
Thank You John and Mary Anna!"

I've had four new homes built, three stick built and my fourth a Modular home purchased from Alternative Modular Homes (AMH). I chose AMH for the following reasons:
AMH came highly recommended from a co-worker for whom AMH had built a home 10 years prior
Mary Anna spoke very intelligently to the product and the process
AMH priced competively, although not the lowest
I am pleased I chose AMH and would choose them again for the following reasons:
Mary Anna and John communicated openly, clearly and honestly throughout the process
There were few surprises, not possible to eliminate all surprises when building a home, there were very few
Mary Anna's estimated timelines were very accurate
The quality of the deliverable is very high, for instance, all windows and doors opperate very smoothly from the get-go, can't always be said for a new home
Each "box" is built to be strong, when stacked on top of each other as is the case with my colonial the resulting structure is very strong
Very easy to modify the plans and Mary Anna was patient and proactive leading up to the finalization of the plans
The build process is quick and worry free
Mary Anna and John worked very well with my excavation / site work contractor - I think a highly skilled local site contractor is a critical element to a successful build.
I encourage anyone considering a modular home to speak with Mary Anna and John prior to making a decision. I had met with a number of Modular home providers prior to meeting with Mary Anna and John. I am very pleased I choose AMH and would do so again.
"We wanted you all to know how very pleased we have been during the whole building process with you folks and your company. The whole process has been conducted with courtesy and professionalism. Our concerns and questions were always addressed quickly and to our satisfaction..."

"In November, 2009, we decided to have a home built on our property in South Waterford, Maine. We visited with Alternative Modular Homes in Oxford and made the choice to hire them. We made a wise choice. Mary Anna and John Palmer own the company. They carefully took us through the steps and hooked us up with good people to complete the work. We were kept informed of everything along the way. We appreciated that Mary Anna gave us choices with different vendors. She also gave us tips on how to save money. Their work ethic is a rarity in today's world. In July 2010, we are enjoying our new home, which is completely finished. We didn't face any surprise fees along the way. We would recommend Alternative Modular Homes to anyone who is interested in building a new home."
"In the spring of 2009, after visiting several modular home businesses, we chose Alternative Modular Homes after our first visit with Mary Anna and John Palmer. The professionalism they showed during our initial site visit was what convinced us. They asked us questions, made no assumptions and courteously offered helpful ideas as we struggled to understand what was possible with our old side hill property. Over a year later the result still amazes us on a daily basis! It is the house we always dreamed of, the placement, the layout and the wnderful deck that Mary Anna suggested makes it even better. Our home is warm, well built and very attractive. It is a pleasure to invite our family and friends here. Mary Anna and John not only sold us this modular home, supplied all the contractors and materials as needed, they also helped us work through many issues that came up as it was all coming together. Their efficiency and professionalism was greatly appreciated. Alternative Modular Homes is, in our opinion, the place to go for a beautiful and well made home!

"We recently moved into our beautiful, new home provided by Alternative Modular Homes. We broke ground in August. The house arrived from Pennsylvania the first week of September. We closed and moved in according to schedule at the end of October.
We are so pleased with all the work done by John and Mary Anna Palmer and their crew, as well as the construction crew at Premier Homes in Pennsylvania. We were not surprised by the great service, as this is our second Alternative Modular Home built by Palmer Development. We had such a good experience the first time, that 15 years later, we decided to go back and do it all again."

When we started looking around for a modular builder, we found many that weren’t welcoming a young couple with too many ideas and a limited budget.John and Mary Anna were very willing to tackle our project. We found them to be very honest, friendly, and professional. We knew we had found the right place at Alternative Modular Homes.
We had our lot and a house plan set to go, but discovered that the amount of ledge to be blasted would put us well over budget. Mary Anna knew our mind was set on a cape and didn’t press the idea of a split-level.We eventually decided to change the style of house to fit the land.Mary Anna patiently went back to the drawing board with us to design our home.We had many options and making decisions was difficult for us.Mary Anna allowed us all the time we needed to get it right. The process took many months, but it was well worth the time.We love our home.
They have many years of experience with their manufacturers and their contractors. This helps the whole process go very smoothly. We know that the Alternative Modular Home product is high quality, and we trust that all aspects of our project will be handled with great knowledge and expertise and in a timely manner..Again we are facing all the new choices for our home.Mary Anna and John have met with us many times as we work toward the final plans. We really appreciate the personal attention they give us.
Dave and Doris lived in this camper for 3 years after they moved to Maine from Massachusetts. Finally said they weren't going to spend another winter in that camper so built this darling little cottage.
Here are some email comments they made to us during the build process:
Day after set: I must say you have made my wife a very happy camper. The house has gone far beyond her expectations and it is not even done. SHE LOVES IT!!!
Excavation and ground work complete: Just to let you know the excavation sub did finish grade and a few other things. What a finish to an already greatjob by them. My wife, again, is a very happy camper! I can't say enough............
Complete and ready for final inspection: Your interior finish sub has gone and now all is quiet. I would like to tell you again how amazed we were with him and his crew. We have been kicking around a long time and you would be hard pressed to find the quality work he produces. What a great sub contractor and compliment to Alternative Modular Homes. You know how to pick 'em!
Final walk-through comments: "You cater to the customer and look out for what is in the best interest of the customer. We've done several construction type contracts and yours was the best ever - you say what you mean, and you mean what you say".
This is the best compliment we could have!
